AlUla Manara will be a place unlike anywhere else on Earth, an inspiring destination within a destination where the universe unveils its secrets, a space dedicated to advancing research and education in astronomy and space science. Supported by local and international partners in astronomy and space technology, AlUla Manara will be an architectural marvel and state-of-the-art facility that invites visitors to explore the wonders of the cosmos. Through interactive exhibits, high-tech telescopes, and immersive workshops, it will bridge the gap between ancient celestial wisdom and modern scientific discovery. As a hub for astro-tourism, it will offer unique stargazing experiences, drawing visitors from around the world to connect with the cosmos in an unforgettable way.
AlUla has earned Dark Sky Park status, the first in the Middle East, as recognised by DarkSky International. The award is acknowledgement of AlUla's clear window in the cosmos - among the best 5% of anywhere in the world - where visitors can spot the Milky Way, planets, and thousands of stars, enjoy guided night tours, telescope viewing and Bedouin star‑stories under a pristine celestial canopy.
Born from a shared love of AlUla’s night skies, an AlUla Stargazing WhatsApp group has grown to over 100 members in under a year, creating a community space where passionate skywatchers connect, plan celestial meetups, share cosmic photos and insights, and explore the wonders above together.
Regional astronomers proposed the Earth revolved around the sun five centuries before Galileo. They calculated the diameter of the Earth, measured the thickness of the atmosphere, and made a host of significant scientific breakthroughs on which later astronomers would build. Not to mention using the stars for navigation in ways few others could. And their legacy lives on in the names of the stars where today, more than 200 of the brightest stars in the sky have Arabic names.
Millions of stars, visible without telescopes, are framed by Gharameel’s mesmerising rock formations, in one of AlUla's most popular experiences.
From soaring above AlUla’s dramatic landscapes to gazing up at galaxies of stars, AlUla Skies Festival is a celebration of all things sky for the Space Wanderer in you.
