Getting To & Getting Around AlUla

Travelling to and getting around AlUla is easier than ever

From what to consider while planning your AlUla trip to useful advice for once you get here, this page has all the information you’ll need to make getting to and around AlUla as smooth as possible.

Getting to AlUla

Tourist Visas
Saudi Arabia has opened its doors to visitors from all over the world with three types of visa available:

e-Visa
Citizens across 49 countries are eligible to apply for an eVisa through the Visit Saudi website. The eVisa is a one-year, multiple entry visa, allowing tourists to spend up to 90 days in the country.

Visa-on-Arrival
Holders of US, UK, or Schengen visas can apply for the visa upon arrival.

Consulate Visa
Tourists from other countries can apply for a consulate visa through Saudi embassies and consulates.

For the most up-to-date information on entry requirements, travellers should check with their carrier before booking.
Flying to AlUla
Saudia Airlines, flydubai and flynas all operate direct flights in and out of AlUla International Airport (ULH) from regional and international destinations. The beautifully renovated airport is a welcoming entrance into AlUla, though being a small airport, services are limited. Its location is just 30 km or a 30-minute drive from the city centre.
Driving to AlUla
Car rental is cost-effective and readily available in Saudi Arabia. Affordable fuel prices and well-maintained roads and highways that connect the major cities in Saudi Arabia make driving to AlUla an enjoyable experience.

International drivers should carry a valid driving licence from their country of residence; an international driving permit is also highly recommended.

AlUla is a three-hour drive from both Medina to the south and Tabuk to the north. Both cities have several rental-car companies to choose from. If you are looking for an adventure and have more time to explore, longer road trips from Jeddah and Riyadh are a great way to explore some of Saudi Arabia’s other destinations on the way to AlUla.

  • Udrive: Rent a car by the minute through their app (available for Apple and Android)

Taxis and Shuttle Buses
Taxis can be found at the airport, though numbers can be limited so it is best to arrange a pick-up in advance.

The ride-share service Kaiian (similar to Uber or Careem) is also available in AlUla. However, we suggest ordering a car at least 30 minutes before your intended departure, as cars are very limited in AlUla.
