Hegra Candlelit Classics
Dec 31, 2021
Hegra Candlelit Classics was a never-before-seen magical night of music. Hegra was surrounded in the glow of thousands of flickering candles as the Stefan Lombard ensemble played a gorgeous five-movement suite in a range of genres.
Music has the ability to transcend both the past and the present. Centring Hegra as the focal point of this musical performance, Hegra Candlelit Classics highlighted and amplified this extraordinary piece of ancient architecture and took the audience on a musical journey through time. This dynamic musical performance reflected the heritage of the area's history as a crossroad of humanity.
In a thoughtful arrangement, Stefan Lombard created a suite, a collection of short musical pieces to be played one after the other. The suite started with classic compositions and moved through contemporary, Arab, movie soundtrack inspired compositions and ended with a revised take on pop music. Joining Stefan Lombard's piano was David Bester on the violin, Dorette Roos on the cello and Simon Stengel on the oud.
East met West in this magical night of music.
