Building on the region’s long tradition of art, Madrasat Addeera is the first school for girls in AlUla, and since 2019 has become a beacon for the local community, where people are rediscovering the region’s traditional crafts, and reviving these once-forgotten techniques. During AlUla Arts Festival, discover how artisans are transforming the traditional art scene in AlUla and join the community through diverse programmes and workshops.
Through carefully crafted professional educational programmes, Madrasat Addeera’s Vocational Training Programme ensures that traditional arts are revived and enhanced. Vocational education in traditional arts has a tangible positive impact on communities, providing valuable opportunities to learn new skills.
Participants have the opportunity to experience and create traditional arts first-hand, under the supervision of specialised local and international instructors at Madrasat Addeera. From learning embroidery, stone, and wood carving, to jewellery making, palm crafts, and shaping ceramic pieces, over 8,000 participants have joined the programme.
Madrasat Addeera’s Public Art uplifts AlUla surroundings through the creation of aesthetic artworks. The initiative enhances the visual landscape of AlUla and adds to its beauty and charm. It also reflects its commitment to support and promote local culture and traditional arts.
Madrasat Addeera Editions draw inspiration from the rich local culture and narratives, blending traditional arts with innovative modern techniques and sustainable materials. The works are designed and produced by both Saudi and international designers and artisans from eight different countries, and have been showcased at both Paris and Milan Design Weeks.
